This is why it’s so important for you to take care of your health. One way to do so is by exercising. There are many great ways to do this throughout the pandemic.
Get Your Daily Steps In
You should take a 30-minute walk every day. Doing so will help give your immune system a great boost. When the weather is nice, try to take a walk outdoors. Of course, you should always avoid crowded places and socially distance yourself from those around you.
The best way to get your walk-in is by setting a daily goal for steps. Doing so will motivate you to walk more. If you can’t walk outdoors by yourself, get someone to help you do so.
Engage in Strength Training Exercise
While you’re at home it’s possible to engage in regular strength training exercises. Doing so will help improve your balance, enhance your core strength, maintain your flexibility, and keep you mobile. One of the best places to start is with yoga or pilates. You can find lots of these types of videos online but you should choose those that are tailored to seniors and don’t require any special equipment.
Take a Virtual Dance Class
Dancing is a great way for seniors to raise their heart rate and boost their endurance. When done in a virtual environment it’ll help reduce boredom and feelings of isolation too. Be on the lookout for low-impact dances so you don’t place too much stress on your cardiac system.
Engage in arts and Crafts
It’s stressful for anyone to follow the current news about the pandemic. Unfortunately, too much stress can be harmful to seniors (or anyone else for that matter). This is why you need a way to take your mind off of it. One of the best ways for you to do this is to take up some arts and crafts. Doing so will keep you preoccupied while also helping you stay productive and creative too.
Take up Gardening
The word “plant-demic” has come about thanks to the pandemic. This is because almost everyone, not just seniors, has taken up a new hobby – gardening. Taking advantage of this trend is great because it provides an excellent outlet for any stress you may be feeling. This is because when you take care of plants your body releases endorphins (a.k.a. happy hormones) that are responsible for allowing you to de-stress. Gardening is also a great way for seniors to enjoy the outdoors and thus get some of the sunlight they need. You can also use this as an alternative to exercising but you should be careful that you don’t lift anything too heavy or work in slippery areas as this can be harmful to your health.
I am a big fan of reading, normally reading 1 to 2 books every week. Reading is somewhat forgotten these days, but reading opens up whole new worlds of enjoyment and thought. I simply cannot recommend reading enough. I tend to read books digitally via Kindle, but good old fashioned books are hard to beat!
