Tips For Healthy Living

Tips For Healthy LivingAs we age, our physical bodies start to need more attention. They tell us this by aching, but your emotional healthy, psychological senior wellbeing, and spiritual self also need attention. These talk to us in a different way.

How Your Non-Physical Body Talks to You

There are several ways that your non-physical body will talk to you, including:

  • How you feel says a lot about how your emotional senior health is doing.
  • Your thoughts and attitudes speak for your psychological senior wellbeing.
  • The way you maintain your surroundings and relate to other people is indicative of your relationships.
  • Whether you feel content and have peace of mind says a lot about how you’re doing spiritually.

The Importance of these Types of Senior Health

While we’re always hearing about the importance of getting a physical checkup, exercising, and eating well, taking care of these other types of senior health is a bit different. Once we find an area that requires our attention, we must learn the proper way of giving it what it needs – how to exercise and feed your mind, emotions, relationships, and spiritual self. While this sounds difficult, it really isn’t. For instance, you already know that exercising is good for you so take a walk in the park with a friend. This gives you an opportunity to talk about your thoughts and feelings too. Other beneficial activities include yoga at a community center, volunteering with children, taking a cultural tour – all things that nourish your whole being.

How to put it all Together

It’s important to be aware of every part of you and have a plan for taking care of all these different parts. Here’s a checklist that’ll help you accomplish this:

  • Physical: Eat well, exercise, take medications, get enough sleep, have some fun
  • Psychological: Think about your attitude towards life, notice what makes you happy, journal, talk about your thoughts and feelings with others, avoid stress, try new activities
  • Emotional: Do things you enjoy, share your feelings and concerns with your friends, read books you enjoy, watch shows and movies you enjoy, ask yourself if anything is bothering you
  • Communal: Spend time with other people both online and in the real world, join groups that are of interest to you, maintain your home, have friends over, learn new things, volunteer
  • Spiritual: spend time in nature, participate in your faith community, meditate, pray, help others, find things you’re grateful for

Make sure you track these activities in a journal or on a calendar so you know how your overall senior health is doing. You should check in with yourself when you wake up, eat a meal, at bedtime, and any time you feel out of sorts.

Another important part of your senior wellbeing has to do with your hearing. This is something that Countryside Hearing Aid Services is here to help you with. Make sure you don’t overlook it because if you can’t hear what’s going on around you, you can’t be an active participant in your own life, which will lead to a decline in your senior health.
